Bio
Martha Gradisher, the talented comic artist behind martha gradisher, has been working in the graphic industry for over 30 years. Martha started her career at Gannett Newspapers, where she was the recipient of many awards for her outstanding work. After leaving that position, she began illustrating children’s books, five of them for HarperCollins Publishers and Penguin Press.
Times Mirror Multimedia was the next stop on Martha’s diverse career path. The company’s primary business of creating CD-ROMs allowed Martha to become an expert in the use of Photoshop software and eventually led to the position of Creative Director. This experience resulted in Martha being recruited into the growing internet advertising industry, creating websites for such well-known brands as M&M Mars, Maybelline, Mastercard, IBM, and Sony. As a result of her outstanding work, Martha shared a prestigious Print and Digital Illustration award with British illustrator Ralph Steadman for their work on the Sony Walkman.
As many start-up agencies did during that period, Martha’s employer went through an acquisition and re-organization that resulted in Martha becoming a freelance artist, creating the diverse portfolio you see on this website. Primarily a published cartoonist, Martha’s website includes a growing database of thousands of single-panel cartoons for such publications as Harvard Business Review, The New Yorker, Reader’s Digest, Playboy, The Wall Street Journal, and Funny Times.
